Review: Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 Bandoliere

Updated: Mar 8, 2021

Purchased December 2019 from Louis Vuitton Vancouver

This gorgeous bag was the one I have ever purchased brand new, and for a little while I did feel a bit of regret about purchasing the size that I purchased. Sometimes the regret was even about purchasing the bag in general.

At the time when we went I was scoping out the Celine Mini Belt Bag in the colour Amazone at Nordstrom as I was hoping to buy it as my graduation present for myself, however a part of me was set on getting a bag while I was there and for some reason I chose to get the Speedy and not the Belt Bag. (Part of me thinks it was about the price difference or that I wasn't as certain about the size, or colour for the Belt Bag, but I had known for a while that I wanted a LV Speedy).

I went for the Speedy 30 Bandoliere as the 30 could still fit a small tablet which was ideal for me in school at the time, (the Bandoliere style made life a little easier for carrying heavier things to work or school and made it a great every day bag).

Since graduating I hadn't used it as much as I don't typically carry a lot with me but I am starting to get back into using it more and more as it really is a great classic bag, after all being designed for Audrey Hepburn by Louis Vuitton its been around for ages.

The Monogram print canvas makes it a versatile piece with its neutral palette, (and it's handy that the coated canvas for the body of the bag is actually amazingly water resistant), great as an every day one even more so since you don't have to worry too much about what it goes with since Monogram really goes with anything.

The only reason why I would consider getting a different pattern with any of my future Louis Vuitton purchases would be to go with treated leather for the trim and handles as opposed to the untreated. While the gorgeous caramel colour of the untreated leather is a nice compliment to the Monogram pattern it patinas, which can look beautiful when done properly however you can also cause the leather to patina simply by having any oils on your hands or carrying your bag in the rain, (which unfortunately happened the very first time that I wore it).

During the beginning of the pandemic I was doing a purge of some of my clothing and accessories in an effort to make a little extra cash, and for a little bit I did think about selling this one. I am beyond happy that I didn't go through with it as this piece was a forever piece when I bought it and will continue to be a forever piece that I will pass down.

All in all when you look at Louis Vuitton prices in comparison to a lot of other companies the price point is a lot more achievable than other brands for most of their classics. I would say for anyone considering this bag that it is worth the investment, and the time and effort to save that money. I am happy to have the classic monogram print and I would say if you plan on having a collection that contains more than one LV it is worth it to have the classic but if you plan on having just one, consider going with the Damier Ebene as it will be more durable with the treated leather trim and handle unless you are happy with the patina. In regards to the 30 size, it is a great every day one for sure especially if you're looking to carry a little more but try on some of the others to see what size works best with your frame.
